Most of you have heard that I was forced against my will to put 40IDA3C carbs on my 914/6. Well, I had to rejet them for the S cams. I have not been able to get them to run correctly, and it has been weeks of dumping gas into the left 3 cylinders.
Today I decide to tackle the problem. I checked the float level, make sure all the jets are clean, verify the jets have the correct numbers, etc... Nothing appears wrong. So I decide to start over and baseline all the adjustments. I had already pulled the left air cleaner assembly, so I go ahead and pull the right one. WTF!!! ARRUUGGHH!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) I installed the f***ing Aux venturis upside down on the left carb when I rejetted it. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) So I pull it apart, and change the Aux venturis. I get it as warm as possible and adjust it. It idles much better (well, as good as can be expected with S cams and worn throttle shafts). It even sits there and blows neat little smoke rings while warming up. I get the linkage adjusted and take it out for a drive... WOO HOO!!! It pulls almost as good as it did with the MFI. So maybe now I can get better than 10 mpg on my trip to work. As I said, I am officially stupid!!!! |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) ...CLAY....don't feel stupid...bet you were just in a hurry, tired or got distracted when installing the aux. venturis. shit just happens sometimes.....BUT I HAVE A QUESTION....did you check the jet sizes...with jet drills/remers??? ...I am really upset with a (close to your situation) problem. I purchased numerious weber jets...new stuff...and as I'm building this set of 44-webers decided to DOUBLE CHECK the jet sizes I planned to use....NEW STUFF...the jet sizes were WAY the hell off..I mean a 120 main jets measured...135.....the 130s....measured 140....all the jets I,ve bought new are totally innaccurate!!!!......so Question for you or anyone is ,who has been the most reliable and ACCURATE supplier of weber jets? jets that you have actually measured to confermed the accuracy of sizes.???. any experiences/ recommendations appreciated.... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) PMO. Richard Parr makes jets and other parts to fit Weber carbs, and they are very accurate. I don't worry about the right jets when they come from PMO. |
