Have you thought of putting some gorilla tape on the back (to keep it square) and throwing it in a ball mill for a few hours? I'd think it'd smooth out the hard edges and polish it up nicely. I've got one I made out of a coffee can, some skate board bearings and an old mixer that works nice for things like this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)
