Last weekend Mike and I were going to go south for the weekend to work on the car. Mike had to bow out, but my stuff was already packed so I headed down.
The car is rusty. Nothing that can't be salvaged, specially since it is a raver and not a street car. We spent Saturday taking a detailed survey of the car, hammer and screw driver in hand. Where things looked fishy, we got out the angle grinder and started cutting to see what was hid. It was rust. PICS! I wonder what this is hiding? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035615.1.jpg) HIYooooooooo (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035616.2.jpg) After removing from fiberglass (and then some more FG...) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035617.3.jpg) FG chunks! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035620.4.jpg) Pedal cluster area was in good shape (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035621.5.jpg) What? Solid metal? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035622.6.jpg) I wonder whats under this scab panel? Scotty cutting it away. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035624.7.jpg) And this is the DRIVERS side! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035625.8.jpg) Rusty scab plate UNDER the scab plate. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035627.9.jpg) Scott wondering "WTF did we do? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035628.10.jpg) Back in the garage. With weight reduction. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/farm7.static.flickr.com-1435-1311035630.11.jpg) So, the plan! this month, scott is going to build up another rotisserie. Mike and I will come down the next time our schedules align - sept probably. *We will cut the floors and replace with sheet. Add tube for strength. *Cut the firewall out and replace with sheet steel *Cut the longs out and replace the inner longs with patches, and the outer longs with clamshells. Goal is to be driving the car next year. Functional over pretty, but our fixes will be STRONG. Zach |
