Anything is easy to fix as long as you have the right parts, sufficient motivation and will power to get it done and (really important in this case) the right tools.

You want pictures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I GOT pictures (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Before the rally, all ready with good intentions to beat some Ford Escort and 911 butt...

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600335.1.jpg)

Was going well in 2nd or 3rd in class I think it was until a mistake in the notes caused me to enter into a corner wayyyy too fast ....

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600336.2.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600336.3.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600336.4.jpg)

I hit the telegraph pole so hard it sheared a 4foot section off (embedded in the car) and the rest of the telegraph pole remained in Ireland

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600336.5.jpg)

If the relevant body strengthening and roll cage weren't in place the car would have looked like a banana (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) wrapped around the pole (and me looking like a squashed tomato (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) )

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600337.6.jpg)

then we started the strip down to see if it was repairable

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600337.7.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600337.8.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600337.9.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600338.10.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600338.11.jpg)

The shunt had essentially pushed the drivers side suspension points back by quite some inches and shifted the whole of the front over to the left by a few degrees. The cage and safety cell were all intact which meant that it could be repaired with a body jig and a new front end (including various other little bits and bobs). The biggest pain in the butt was trying to get the fuel tank out that was crushed into place (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The strip down....

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600338.12.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600339.13.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600339.14.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600339.15.jpg)

The rebuild....

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600339.16.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600340.17.jpg)

The dozer..

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600340.18.jpg)

after the front right had the initial pull out

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600340.19.jpg)

The new front cut out of an old car that was never going to get back on the road again.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600340.20.jpg)

welded into place

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600340.21.jpg)

cut out for the wide wing

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600341.22.jpg)

luckily the old metal wide wing could be beaten back into shape and re-used

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600341.23.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600341.24.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600341.25.jpg)

a little bit of additional strengthengin welded in place (bottom left)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600342.26.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600342.27.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600342.28.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600342.29.jpg)

and here we are all painted up and ready to have it's clothes put back on (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600343.30.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i31.photobucket.com-3285-1325600343.31.jpg)

Was it easy? NO

Was it worth it? YES

Am I going to back out this year to kick some more butt in the name of 914? DEFINETLY (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif)
