Yeah... cow catcher. The thing bolted to the front bumper and valance. May have to change the contrast on your monitor to see it. Rich nailed it. It's the mounting frame for the front oil cooler. Instead of cutting the car and putting the cooler into the front trunk, the oil cooler is simply mounted under the front bumper. This was a pretty common way of running an external oil cooler back in the day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) |

So was that used to protect the front cooler from track debris? Just because you cut a big hole in the front and mount the cooler a few inches back doesn't mean it's any more protected. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Either way you would need some sort of mesh to cover the inlet hole or in this case the cooler under the bumper.
