Well, never started a "build" thread...so here goes.
Found the car outside LA and actually drove it home. Drove it through the canyons a few times...then the "sickness" set in. Yes, I had to tear this car apart. Don't know why. I am an IT Project Manager by trade and a car junkie with the most limited tools ever. List of cars come and gone: 1976 Lancia Beta HPE - high school Mulholland drive runner 1983 Fiat 2000 Spider Turbo - sweet car with a POS transmission 1967 Cadillac CDV - Lead Sled 1973 MGB GT - should have never sold it And now, a 1970 Porsche 914 Here it is, in the seller's driveway...rippled, wavy, fogged paint. 2.0 with dual webers; ran well then. ![]() Here it is 3 weeks later, told you I was sick! ![]() |

I sanded down to metal in some places; other places had some good base coat but no bondo.
I block sanded in between coats of primer to get a flat finish. I hung plastic around the car in the garage, cracked the door about a foot, put a turbo fan Point out the door) on a wet floor under the car; which was on jack stands. Used a respirator and sprayed about 4 coats of paint; one stage. Let cure then block wet sanded, machine polished...and there you go. I remember the effort now and can't believe i got through it...but the guys here on the forum are great and I am always learning. First car I ever prepped and painted. Prepped before but never painted. Watched a lot of YouTube videos and there is a great set of articles by CarCraft magazine. Thanks. Gary |
