Hi,
I getting ready to start a 5-lug conversion on my 914 and had a quick question about the differences between 911 and 914 A-arms. One of the a-arms I have on my '85 Carrera suspsension looks like it was used to jack the car up and the area near the rear bearing is bent over slightly. Can I just pull the torsion bars out and use the 911 cross member and front mounts on the car with the old 914 arms and Carrera parts? I know the 914 arms have tabs for a through the body sway bar but are the arms interchangable or are there other differences? Thanks, datapace |

QUOTE(datapace @ Jul 3 2004, 02:48 PM) It's a 1974 914. I plan to use the front and rear torsion bar carriers from the 911 suspension. Will probably replace the ball joints anyway before I install the suspension. I'm not sure what you are saying here. The 914 and 911 rear suspensions are so different that nothing is interchangeable. The 911 rear is torsion bar sprung, and the 914 has coil springs. You cannot mix parts on the front, with the exception of the cross bar so far as I know. The torsion bars are matched to the A-arms and the adjuster caps. The torsion bars are different rates between 911 and 914. Until you can find a replacement A-arm, just use the 914 front suspension with the 911 struts. Ball joints must match the strut. Upgrade the 911 A-arms to use the 914 sway bars. |
