Im looking for the eayest way to get a automatic transmission into a 914, I am ok with using a different engine. I have heard of people using a Audi A4 2.8 auto FWD. Is there any outer ideas? I don't need a race car, just something to cruise in. So whats the best options if i have 10k to burn on the engine and trans?

Both Audi and Subaru make engine/tranny combos that could be swapped into a 914. Keep in mind these are water cooled, so it's a little more than just putting an engine in.
Most donor vehicles newer than 2000 will have an Immobilizer and chipped key. In the case of the Audi, the immobilizer circuit is controlled by the dash cluster. In my conversion I swapped the cluster, ECU and steering column. Not for the beginner. If you get an early 90's donor, you can just swap the ECU and TCU (tranny) and be done. Just find a front wheel drive automatic. |
