Got the car a few weeks ago and have been holding off on making the official debut. It's a '72 with a 901 2.0 built up to a 2.2.
The car had been sitting for several years and needed a reseal as well the normal valve adjustment, tune up, etc. Bob Woodman and his mechanics did the work and said it's strong as any early 911 engine they've seen. Yesterday was spent with my new Porter Cable 7242XP-HD and Meguiars 105, 205, and P21. That made for quite a day! I took the car for a long drive this morning and I can say that I now understand the allure of the 6. The 6 makes the 914 everything it should have been. The sounds, the power, the experience is so much more than what you experience in a 4 cylinder car. I can't even imagine the experience of a 3.2 or larger! to some extent its like a loud muffler on a car
the loud muffler makes you "think" you are going much faster and have "much" more hp... on the track, a 4 is about as fast as a small -6 (after 2.4L the bigger -6's become faster) the 4 makes better torque and is lighter/slightly more balanced in the corners.... the -6 slightly better at the end of a long straight (like the old lemans straight before the kink... miles and miles long) but the 6 sounds faster, even if lap times don't support it |

Well said, have both big IV and bigger VI. The 4 is light and nimble, while the six just screams. The 6 is balanced but you drive it with brut force and it slides at will (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |
