This is the left side of the dash in my son's 70. It doesn't match the 72 or the 74. What is suppost to go in the hole? I can't find a pic of this part of the car anywhere.

On one of my old cars, a '73, I thought I was really clever. I put a wiper switch out of an early car in an empty hole in the dash and brought a power wire out of the ignition switch into it, making it so that you had to both turn the wiper switch and the ignition switch before you could start the car. Made it real innocuous by putting an AC switch insert out of an old bug into the rubber. At some point the switch failed. Maybe giving it constant power was a little much for a 30 year old wiper switch.
Point being, somebody could easily have added a switch into the dash to serve some purpose or another. It sounds like the switch in question is a rear defrost switch. I seem to recall that those were to the left of the steering column. I know for certain that the wiper switches were on the right. |
