I'm looking at different engine swaps. One that has been suggested by several people has been a rover V8/buick 215. Does anyone have one in their 914? What is involved with this besides what would be with a chevy V8? Does anyone have any websites with someone documenting a rover swap?

These engines seem to have a bit of a cult following. If you do a google search for for Buick/Rover 215 you'll find people converting these into various cars and doing a lot to the engines. They weigh 250-300 pounds less than a small block chevy engine. I guess one would have to weigh the cost of the core engine, the cost of rebuilding, the weight savings, and see if it's all worth it compared to a SBC with more horsepower.

The hot setup to use in this case is to swap the heads for those on a 1964 Buick 300, which is the same basic engine with a cast iron block and a displacement bump. The 300 heads are still aluminum, however, and will bolt to the 215 block. It is possible to drop the crank and heads from the 300 onto a 215 short block and get a 5.0 liter all aluminum V-8 that weighs about 310 lbs fully dressed.
