. I'm pretty sure you can build a 356 new. And who's to say that even the vin tag hasn't been reproduced from a number that's been known to be in the grave. All important info to know if your buying a car for the vin. Not necesary if your buying a car to drive.

Also sort of strange that the factory - Porsche, Ferrari, ect can/did take an old vin from a race car and place it on a new tub and now it's the old car and legal. The providence of the old car switches to the new chassis as long as it has the old vin. Well, sort of....

I walked around and drooled over a 356 Carrera 2 two years ago. A beautiful, well documented first rate restoration. Big,big money.
For sale, at the same time, five hundred miles away there was a another car of the exact same description AND the same VIN.
When there is serious money involved, very odd things can happen.
