I would like to replace my car speakers, what is the difference between type s and r speakers.

Thanks, system is already installed with 5 1/4 in the doors 4x 6 in the kick panels, and 2 - 8" subs in the firewall, All my speakers are Alpines but they are getting very old just looking to freshen them up.
