Does the cold start valve just matter when engine is cold? When engine is warmed up could you bypass the cold start valve with no issues?

The cold start valve operates only below freezing (0C). Once the case temperature is above freezing, the cold start valve is not active.

Jerry - I think it actually cuts in a bit above freezing from my experience here in SoCal.

BTW - it's now time to update your avatar pic to Bucs or Steelers logos! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

.

Ian - the ECU should be automatically cutting out the CSV when the engine is warmed up enough. It's only supposed to boost the fuel/air mixture when needed - just like the hand throttle on the 914-6s & early non-EFI 911s.

If it's not doing so, then you've got something up with your ECU, & I suggest you get FIC/BRET in Tracy/Livermore CA or someone competent to rebuild it or sell you a rebuilt on core exchange. BRET used to be in Torrance/SoCal, but were bought by FIC & moved up north years ago. My 73 2.0's ECU was cored out to BRET in the late 70's/early 80's & had run fine for another 5-7+ years after that.
