So there was a recent thread where there was serious 'take the rocker covers off and check your longs' finger wagging going on.... so I did...
Background: I got the car 8/2012, from Cali, a Palm Springs car its whole life. The car had/has very little rust, and is very original. I'm fairly certain that the covers have never been off in the life of the car.... this is what I found: Drivers Side: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the road tar and sand and whatever was caked in there! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/WTF.gif) ![]() Passenger Side: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So the rivet holes on the passenger side sill are rusty, and I'll clean those up and primer/paint. Overall the longs look great, and I'm happy to see them so clean and rust free. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) |

My vote is keep it original if you can. Fix rust but try to retain as much original paint as possible. I suspect the thread you saw on taking the longs off was related to my car.
Looks like you have great car. Congrats. Would love to see more pics. Lots of them. |
