Guys,
I need to have some fittings machined and wanted to know what the factory 914-6 oil tank fittings are suppose to be? |

Good'ay guys...
I only skimmed this so please go easy on me if I missed any responses. Baffling, no different to sumps at the bottom of the 944/968's, Skylines R32's, V8's... the goal is to keep oil from leaving the suction inlet. These 911/914 tanks are so deep that I have never heard of a problem. Got oil OCD? plumb in an accu-sump. Screen. i like the idea if perforated one above, however, i went with stainless mesh exactly the same weave as the OEM 914 and 911 tanks. Oil has ZERO problems going through it, given the surface area of the screen. FOAM is NOT your friend... just like over boiling pasta on the stove, if you put a spoon or strainer over the sauce pan, it helps condense the foam back to water. Fittings. not unless you port your oil pump, every oil orifice on the supply route in the engine, are you going to gain anything over the M22 fitting, which I think someone did mention as being the best option based on AN/Metric adapters (which is why i used them). After the oil leaves the filter, the OE tank goes up and dumps back down directly over the lowest part of the tank. This is the only thing i really changed... I routed my drain at the back of the tank to hopefully reduce foaming. Being this is the opposite side of the supply to engine fitting, has anyone had an issue? Helicoil or key-locking threaded insert (as I did) your M6 oil filter holes. DO NOT send them without an insert of some kind. if nothing else, trust me on that one. I couldn't anodyze mine because of the stainless screen inside... otherwise i had looked into it. Cheers mates! |

Don longtime no see I agree and that is the conclusion I came to as well regarding the 22mm fittings. I suppose the only thing people are gaining by going to larger fittings is oil capacity. So the update: I have completed aluminum bungs to be welded on. I have located someone to anodize the tanks for a reasonable cost I have tweaked the size a bit and made really nice patterns I have 5 sub assemblies welded and hope to complete 2-3 this weekend and then off to the anodizers and then the 1st customers. This project has taken way longer then anticipated but I hope that it will pay off. I will meet my deadline of starting to ship tanks by the end of the month +/_ a few days.. I will post pictures of the completed tanks this weekend. I may powder coat some as well. |
