Hey Guys,
Just curious...how trashed are these CVs? Ranging on a scale from..."you've easily got another 100K in them"....to...."it's amazing you weren't stranded". Also curious how/why there are three distinct grooves. Thoughts? ![]() |

FYI - apparently Porsche has reintroduced the original 914 CVs + axles as one part at not much more, plus they're the real deal old school type, which are far better than the Type I converts IMHO.
Unfortunately, they won't match the splines of the old part CVs, so you've got to do the axles with their superceded part number ones anyway - ergo the whole banana vs CVs only. The was a post on here a coupla weeks ago about the new part availability, so do a search. They won't be cheap, but they'll last til your grandkids have the car, unless you drive it a lot! A lesser cost alternative would be the converts sold by Tangerine & others. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) One must ask themselves, now how did that race get grooved in the first place when it started out as a smooth rolling surface?? ... & I think you'll answer your own question! PS - IIRC the correct CVs used on our 914s at the factory were the same as those used on the 911s, but with a 914-specific spline/axle. So I think they did the 999- p/n supercession ones with the 911 or another spline count. I got some last year from Rich Bontempi at HPH before Porsche released this new current run of them, & that's what he told me about the ones I got (also supereceded p/n), & the 911 CV info is what my 40+ year mechanic Hans said many times over the years, & he was factory trained in `69 on 914s & used to be a dealer tech since the 60's in Austria & US before starting his own shop in`72 FWIW.
