For your entertainment - a video of one session from the SCCA time trail last weekend.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oH4djih9pxw Won GT2 class and was less than 1 second from overall Fastest Time of Day! For comparison, this is last year in Papa Smurf... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6EX9PI0r88 Difference in these two video's is about 5 seconds (Papa faster). With Papa Smurf, I never even pushed it before the crank pulley bolt backed out. I was experimenting with the new transmission and figuring out gears. Still ended up overall Fastest Time of Day!! |

The difference here (hopefully) is that this is a stock engine - all he did was replace bearings and seals, so no engineering or thought needed. It's been two years now - multiple hillclimbs, autocrosses, Hawk vintage race at Road America, TT at Roebling Road and CMP now. I'm pretty confident that it's OK, but...no reason to stress it out too much! In the long run our goal is to put a real vintage legal engine in Huey to race him, and move this 3.2 over to a street car...one of these days... |
