Hi there, it's been a while since I posted. I will be getting my car back tomorrow or the next day, RUST FREE! Being 17 years old, I worked two jobs for the last six months and realized I'll actually have money left over for rims! I'm debating whether I'll do a 5 lug conversion, or stick with the 4 lug. Anyone post what you've got, right now fuchs(replicas of course) are at the top of my list, but I want to see other ideas. Thanks and have a nice day! Here's my 71, only 90k miles! Finally coming together

16x 6" front and 16x7" rear with 205/55 16 tires restored 911 5 lug fuchs So based on ^ picture, if I keep the stock 15x5.5 Mahles, 205/55s should work fine, so 205/50s are within the realm of the possible! maybe, depends on offset and backset- mine rubbed so I had to do some fender stretching and still very tight, - in the end ive decided to get 6" width tires and I will be running 205/50-16 which are 8"wide tread, and are 24.1"tall, which is right on for our 914 height - I suppose for your 15" rims you could run 205 but I think 55 to be tall enough or your speedo to be accurate- do a tire calculator on line - you will see how they compare to stock - if I had put 195/55 on my 7" rims I would not have rubbed and been o.k. but like I said, the amount of tread on the ground would be the same as my 6" wide 16" fuchs with 205-50 tires, and better off set, more room on outside- now I could have run 944 turbo wheels and they would be almost 1/2" less to the outside and not rubbed like these did, - oh well, live an learn, - its better to stay with the 6" wide rims , plenty of tread on the ground and tire choices are good on the 16" types. Phil The 195/60-15s I have now have a section width of 7.68", and an OD of 24.21". Going to 205/55-15s will give me 8.07" and 23.88", respectively. The OD is close enough that it shouldn't affect the speedo, and the slightly wider footprint hopefully won't present any rubbing issues on the stock 5.5 wide wheels. That's what I'm thinking anyway... |
