My current tach is from memory a 72 911 one, looks nice but that's about it,the needle is unstable as rpm changes and not reading right.
I have a later tach which is from a 76 and has 8 pins on the back (only 3 used) can anyone tell me what pins 2,5 and 6 are for ?. 1 x purple black to engine loom, 1 x brown earth, 1 x red/black switched power. I need to know which wire to which pin, thanks in advance |

All it needs are those three connections - 12v switched, ground, and tach signal. Your problem is that it doesn't have an adapter for an early car.
Try looking for a "tach adapt" which converts the tach signal to something your tach can understand. |

But which pins do I connect to? otherwise your answer is well ....useless sorry ,already have tachadaptor in there and know I have to change the jumper connection for the early to late input rate. |

I just did this on my car; I have a 2.7 with a 911 2.7 tach and electromotive ignition. I don't recall the exact pin out, but they were clearly marked on the back of the tach (engraved). I did not need to use all the pins, just like you. My tach works just fine, but having said that I had it rebuilt at No Ho speedo, and they asked me what kind of ignition I was using. You can figure out ground and +12 volts. My question to you is where your tach signal is coming from? And, have you ruled out the tach itself as being free of problems? Lastly, go find a 2.7 wiring diagram. It will tell you what each pin means. |
