Not a lot of 914 time lately, did a clutch change in my son's mk4 GTI Golf while he was home from uni and built a boat trailer for the neighbor so just got back into it recently.
Continuing to re engineer my gearshift set-up,purchased 2 uni joints from Moore parts and another rear bronze bush and coverted the shift console. I had previously contacted Chris @ Tangerine about buying his version of this part separately but he wasn't keen...no worries so I fabbed a piece from steel, hardest part was aligning the shaft square to the bushes, got it first time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . Machined up a piece of 304 stainless and polished it for ease of movement in the bushes. End result was a much smoother shift action, appears to be a more positive feeling when selecting gears like you really fell them going in......road test will be the proof hopefully. Due to the last discusion on here about 911 air cleaners I decided I would return to my stock plastic one so to do that I needed to repair it due to melting from spitback on the RH side carb, various size blocks of and a heatgun I managed to get it back in shape. To be continued........ |
