Hi I recently bought my 914 (photo attached for those curious - '73 2.0L) and I now want to obtain the Certificate of Authenticity for it. I located the Engine Number required for the Certificate Application, but I need help locating the Transmission Number required for it. Any suggestions? I don't (yet) have a car lift, so maybe that is part of my problem. Thanks.

The requirements for ordering a COA have changed over the years. You didn't used to have to provide anything other than the VIN and possibly some kind of proof of ownership. Then they started requiring the engine number, and if you didn't provide one they would leave that section of the COA blank. Sounds like they may be doing the same with the trans number now too.
I'm guessing that they want to keep people from re-stamping other parts, or some such. So they'll tell you if the number you have is correct, but won't tell you the right number if you don't know it already. --DD |
