I ordered one of the messed up hats. Put it on, and it looked way too goofy -- even for garage wear. A pocketknife and 30 seconds later and I had a really nice looking hat.(IMG:http://914.ojai.net/hat.jpg)

I just carefully cut the tag off. The trick is to not cut the threads that the tag is held in with (I accidentally hit a few). Now I just need to cut off the stray threads and I should be good to go.
