So I’m guessing that the 914 chassis was not built to withstand the stresses and strains of 360 hp and grip of 12” racing slicks... or heck, even 230 hp and 245 wide tires!
So far, in Papa Surf, we’ve cracked (ripped off is more accurate) the outer rear suspension console, cracked the chassis around the rear wheel well/suspension area, and ripped out the front control arm mount points (all have been fixed and reinforced) In Huey, we tore off the inner rear suspension mount point “ear”. slowly but surely all stock sheet metal is getting replaced or reinforced.
Our winter project was to take out the engine and trans and send to Dawe's Motorsport for an engine refresh and trans rebuild/regear plus add LSD. Then while these are away, to completely disassemble the car down to bare chassis, have it media blasted, fix any holes, broken areas, rust spots etc. do more strengthening/stiffening with the cage and cross braces, re-wire, re-plumb some things that have been changed a dozen times, fix all the holes in the fiberglass body panels, re-paint, and put it all back together. Guess the project is starting earlier than anticipated... Just wish I had the ROOM to do all this!! |
