Went down the hot four route before changing directions and going with a small six. Sounds amazing, I trust a flat six with 150+ hp more than a Type IV with that kind of power, and 200hp is all you need (!) in a narrow car. No regrets, but it is heavier.
If I was starting with a blank slate on a car I had no history with, I'd do a 914 with the look of a factory 914-6 GT but build it very light with a 2.5-liter STi flat four and transmission or maybe a 718 GTS engine + transmission. 400 hp to push 1800-1900 lbs with a decent interior should be doable, and would be a blast.
