Under $50 with a core returned....if the darn thing works it's awfully cost effective.

Just wanted to chime in with my experience.
I had purchased a NEW alternator from one of the chain auto parts stores. Foolishly I didn't research on here first. The post on the back was too long and shorted out on the cover. I found this out after I had it all buttoned up and had just connected the battery. A ploom of foul smoke filled my garage as I scrambled to disconnect the battery terminal. It melted the alternator harness, probably/maybe fried the new alternator too. I got a new alt harness from 914Rubber and a new/used factory alternator on eBay. Been running great since. Do it right or do it twice. And the alternator is not a job you want to do twice even if you don't have heat exchangers. |
