I used to carry a lot more spares with me before I pulled my car apart for paint, and then converted it to a 911 engine. I wasn't much concerned about originality or "concours" correctness...just didn't want to get stranded. I'd like to get back after that.
Back then it was: 15x5.5 Gasburner with 165R15 tire (lighter full-size spare) 944 scissor jack (lighter, and my jack points were suspect) Tool kit (not the original...) Fuses + relays + bulbs Fan belt Clutch clevis pin Clutch cable (under rear trunk carpet) Throttle cable (under rear trunk carpet) If you were going to do it now, or are doing it, what would be/is in your kit? EDIT: Going to make a running tally for (my) "ideal kit" based on the above and other ideas on this thread: Front trunk Full-size spare on light alloy wheel Aluminum scissor jack (in lieu of stock steel jack) Tool kit (original or roll your own), breaker bar w/19mm soft socket Fuses, relays, bulbs, clutch clevis, fan belt, fuel filter, select ignition parts Extra motor oil Rear trunk Clutch cable (laid flat under trunk carpet) Throttle cable (laid flat under trunk carpet) This thread has a number of other good ideas—as well as some fun ones—but the list above focuses on items that could be tough to get in a pinch but won't add much weight or take up a lot of space. Past the spare tire, jack, and tools, very little weight at all. I am sure everyone's take on "smart" things to bring along differs, particularly for a longer trip, but keep the ideas coming. They might help someone new to 914s out…as well as those of us who aren't. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Especially the tequila... |

We also pack one or two quarts of oil, (just in case) and have a billet jack that's pretty light and compact.
