Have a 1973 914 that someone installed an electric rear trunk release. It was always a problem; you had to energize the solenoid by the pushbutton and while energized push down on the trunk lid. Now it does not operate at all; no sound from the solenoid when the pushbutton is depressed. Is there a way to open the rear trunk lid manually?

Before you starting cutting, drilling, etc, make sure you rule out all possible other options. Check for a blown fuse as others have stated. Make sure the car is running or the key is in the accessory position. Have someone push down while you press the button. Before I removed the solenoid and converted the car back to stock mine was very finicky and often required numerous attempts. Lots of frustration and rear deck lid smacking.
