Hello All:

I just bought some new hood springs from 914 Rubber during their Memorial Day Sale. Installed them yesterday; what a job!

Went out today to open the hood and the springs couldn't keep it up. They were placed on the second spring setting, since they would not keep the hood up on the first setting. Anyone else having this problem keeping it up? Did I just get a pair of bad springs?

My car is an early 1970 model year 914 (built December 1969). Springs were 914 Rubber part # OEM 9145111631OE.

Did you purchase the early or late springs? Just curious. I also purchased a set of new late hood springs for my 74 1.8L from 914Rubber during the Memorial Day sale. I am going to bring my big prybar from work and get some thick wire to attach to the spring to remove them.

A pair of leather gloves and a little muscle work just as well. Just prop the hood to full height with a broomstick.

Did that the first time around. The new springs from 914 Rubber are weaker than the ones I took off!
