Hello All:

I just bought some new hood springs from 914 Rubber during their Memorial Day Sale. Installed them yesterday; what a job!

Went out today to open the hood and the springs couldn't keep it up. They were placed on the second spring setting, since they would not keep the hood up on the first setting. Anyone else having this problem keeping it up? Did I just get a pair of bad springs?

My car is an early 1970 model year 914 (built December 1969). Springs were 914 Rubber part # OEM 9145111631OE.

Second foto showing how high it can keep it up.

Mine are original & they're hooked at the middle notch. The force is fine unless it's super windy. Too much force & you'll need dental work. Pull yours out to a highest tension setting (last notch towards the front).

Did you purchase the early or late springs? Just curious. I also purchased a set of new late hood springs for my 74 1.8L from 914Rubber during the Memorial Day sale. I am going to bring my big prybar from work and get some thick wire to attach to the spring to remove them.

A pair of leather gloves and a little muscle work just as well. Just prop the hood to full height with a broomstick.

Ditch the springs and go with the 914Camp hood shocks. Much safer all around.

Did that the first time around. The new springs from 914 Rubber are weaker than the ones I took off!

I purchased the early springs, since my car is a December 1969 build date.

914Rubber’s customer service is the BEST!!!!
When I contacted them about this spring problem, they immediately sent sets of both the early and later style of frunk springs. I installed the later style and they worked great.

I have had both early and late cars. Have observed a noticeable difference in tension/hood sag between the two.
