Hello gents. Wondering if anyone has tried installing a full containment (halo) seat in their car? I'm considering one at some point, but I'm honestly worried that they would be dangerous in the event of a fire, making egress really difficult. It's already not particularly easy to get in or out of my car with the door bars and a regular seat. Anyone have any opinions?

I suppose as they've become more and more mainstream, I've just considered it might be an option. Have seen them in everything from IMSA to Spec Miata and thought it was the direction everyone was headed in the pursuit of ultimate safety. But in our case, I think it could actually work against that goal. Yes, I definitely wear a HANS, along with anyone who would ever be driving the car.

Watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1heYF7JqF4I That was with the racing seat with more open sort of "wings" above the shoulder...no support for side to side impact. This was a relatively slow hit, was maybe below 30mph when I hit the tire wall...see how my head flopped even with the HANS? That convinced me to get a better seat...you can see the difference in containment here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0BU4kyuCY4 Get a better seat. Period. |
