This is an off-shoot of a couple threads earlier this month to specifically address car alarms and their use in a 914.

Anybody have one? Recommend one specifically for a 914? How much do they cost? What are the features and benefits of one over the other? You get the idea.

My resto project for some reason had a Viper car alarm. The fans and radio didn't work because of the way alarm was wired. The brakes leaked, the carbs were backfiring like an SOB. The springs are shot. I had to rip the interior out. If someone managed to steal it, you could have found them by the backfiring or wrapped around a stop sign.
But, hey, just in case, the car alarm sure worked really well. Why? Who knows?
Even though the alarm was about the only thing that worked almost perfectly, I took the alarm out to try to get the other electricals put back together. I don't know if I'll put it back. Depends on the wiring. More likely it will end up on my 914 Xmas tree next year with all the other old parts I plan to spray silver and use as ornaments.
