Hello all,
Need your opinion on what it would cost to have my 1.7 rebuilt. I want to keep it stock. Thanks in advance for your oh so gracious opinions. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

I have a 72' 1.7 that has just had the "top end" done by a local VW store here in Phoenix. They did a good job. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif)

The car, which I had recently purchased from a fella, had not been run since 93'. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

In having the work done, along with with all the associated "other stuff" that needed to be replaced, I also had the clutch "refreshed" and had to have the flywheel replaced. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smash.gif)

Total cost, installed-- $2,600.00 (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

Then I slowly, have replaced, almost every fuel system componet on the car including the fuel lines themselves. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/unsure.gif)

The fuel pump is the expensive guy! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif)

Extra Total cost, installed-- $800.00 (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

The car ran for a couple of weeks and then needed a starter. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mad.gif)

I also got rid of the wet battery and went to a dry cell type.

Extra, Extra, Total cost, installed-- 350.00 ( I did the battery myself).

BUT,

The car is running (nearly) perfectly and all in all, I have "gotten away cheap" in that there happens to be so much "right" with the car, acutally. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif)

It is some of the best money I have ever spent, (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/grouphug.gif) I use the car every day, for every trip, whenever possible. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/MDB2.gif)

It is only money. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/screwy.gif)
