So I previously posted looking for advice on building a type 4 or trying for a -6 conversation. In general people advised a mild type 4 build and just enjoy the drive. I decided to keep an eye out for a 6 but plan on just using the type 4 I had.
Then I got a few weeks leave from Iraq and happened to come across a no reserve eBay auction for a storage unit not far from home. I got a 2.0 MFI 911E engine, a complete 1.7 type 4, and a destroyed targa 911 for about $6k. Both engines turn over easily and look fairly complete (have not had time for a detailed inventory yet though). Pretty excited, need to offload or strip the 911 before I head back to Iraq but I’m looking forward to trying to get this 6 conversation going! If this ends up needing a rebuild I will probably run a 4 while I acquire parts/save money but it should be a fun long term goal! I will post some pictures in a bit…the 911 is comically bad. |

Nice score.
I can imagine one scenario: Build a 914 with the suspension and brakes from the derelict Targa, and run it initially with the 1.7. Part out the rest of the Targa to fund rebuilding the six, and then put it in the 914. And watch yourself over there. |

Definitely a great option, I’m hoping it does not need a full rebuild but who knows. |

A full engine and MFI system rebuild is staggering, but the starting price helps. …guessing a 76 or 77 |
