Got a line on a 924. Needs some body work and has not been run is about 6 or 8 months. It was a donated vehicle and no price has been set. What is the general consensus on the 924 and would it be worth it if I could get it for $200 or $300 buck? I know it had an audi motor in it and was underpowered. But tell me a little more about them. What do you know about them?

That car is in the Netherlands... which is about just as rainey as Seatle I guess (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif) The car is from a friend of mine and I took Geoff for a ride in it It's a GT (not a GTS). Think about it, it made a good, reliable 210bhp back in 1981! Awesome car and performance, specially for that time The regular 924 has a bit of a soap for soar eyes look these days, with it's weird skinny tires and narrow bodywork (sound familiar, huh (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)) But back in the days, it definatly had the best bang for buck. Faster than a VW GTI as about the same price and it could handle the speed (which the GTI couldn't). Don't let anyone ever tell you it's got an Audi or a VW engine though, cause it does not... A lot of BS. Only the engine's main casing is from Audi The 924S is a narrowbody version of a 944. Porsche claimed it had a 150bhp engine (the 944 made 164bhp), but that's sales BS Same friggin' engine and the car has a higher top speed because it has less aerodynamic drag (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) My dad's first P-car was a 924. And back then, it was cool as ....! He also had a 924 turbo. Nasty turbo-lag, but when it kicked in at 3500rmp. Whoooo-hooooo (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) The 924 is no where near as fun as a 914 though. It feels heavy and sluggish and it will pretty much scrape the doorhandles over the tarmac in a corner. They are the most underrated p-car out there, and that's sad. They were fabulous cars for their time. Very hard to find a nice and decent example... |
