Like Adam, we’ve purchased some big part stashes. It’s expensive to move and store. Our last big haul, from a shop in Texas, we left all the 914 parts that weren’t from a six. Crawling around a loft in Texas heat, packing up, loading the trucks, driving up to PA, unloading, unpacking, sorting, etc. - the novelty wears off and anything that isn’t needed or profitable is just surplus. If you’ve ever paid money to store parts, you realize at a certain point, it’s more profitable to throw them away than to store and try to sell.
The guy with 50 of each - empty transmission cases, hoods, struts and trailing arms in their possession is just delaying the inevitable trip to the metal recycling yard.

Yeah, you know how it is, long and hard.
The trick to TX is do it in the winter, it isn't so bad.
This was a guy whose dad was the SW Distributor for Porsche until the early 70's, the warehouse was almost all NOS stuff, we loaded the whole U-Haul, every inch. Those are the stashes you want, lots of little NOS pieces, not big take offs of cars that rarely go bad. Like the time I went to guy's place and he had a who loft of 944 rear hatches, he said it's all money!
