Not to speak for other posters, but the gist of what I am reading is strongly suggesting that you fix everything properly. It is hard to argue with that approach. That means sourcing the missing pieces and reassembling everything the way it was designed to be. Fixing other people's shortcuts/mistakes takes time and resources, but it is always on you to do things the right way. If you don't then you will keep having problems.
