i started looking into this 2 years ago when i was planning my rebuild motor after the drpped valve seat on the OEM motor.
I ended up building a nice 2056 with increased compression, brand new heads, counter balanced crank and of course the cam is performance minded as well. to start i installed the d-jet and later last year i added a 50mm bored out stock throttle body from Tangerine/Chris Foley. Yes this helped a great deal, but we are still limited due to the d-jet and the MPS. So there are a few people out there that make ITB( independant throttle body) that could be used. One is Jenvey, and i see that PMB is carrying those. It looks ike they are mated to what ever IDF intake manifold you choose. there are 40, 45, 48 options. mated with 350cc injectors. I am wondering other than the CB performance stuff that has been available for a while, others have come to the table, who here has played around with this ? over the years ive read a lot on others using the megasquirt and micro etc and it seemd they were very difficult to tune and set up with lots of problems, trial and error. I am looking for advice on what to stay away from and what are the pitfalls and mistakes we can avoid before jumping into this. Look forward to some input, thanks!! Phil |

I watched this video from Jake Raby over the weekend. It's always interesting listening to him talk about R&D. It seems that he and Mario from the Dub Shop have been working on their own version of a more modern Single Throttle Body EFI. Hopefully, those interested can access this link:

I watched this video from Jake Raby over the weekend. It's always interesting listening to him talk about R&D. It seems that he and Mario from the Dub Shop have been working on their own version of a more modern Single Throttle Body EFI. Hopefully, those interested can access this link: https://www.facebook.com/aircooledtech/vide...925350345685623 They aren't the only ones (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Back in the day when Jake still despised Megasquirt he reached out to me and we spoke a bit on the subject. Despite bad experiences he has always been forward thinking enough to realize aftermarket injection was the way forward. Unfortunately at the time my day job prohibited me from being more involved assisting in his path. Glad to see him working with Mario though as he has delivered some awesome products for injecting our engines. Most people that spend any time playing with this stuff though quickly realize the shortcomings of ITBs so I'm really glad to see the two of them jumping on this problem. That said, single plenum intake manifold design is a pretty complicated subject. While I don't actually know what all they have put into the project so far it appears their approach is based on improving a type 1 style injection manifold with a hyper focus on improving flow and while I am sure this will absolutely remove restrictions over the stock type 1 setup efficient plenum design involves more than just maximizing flow. Runner and plenum lengths, volume, shape, and orientation all have impact on the end result. Theory is one thing though and dyno results are another so as someone who has been playing with modern injection on 914s for the last 20 years I couldn't be more excited to see the results. Now back to my original comment... For a while before "officially" starting work for PMB I had been advising Eric on fuel injection matters and the ITB/single plenum problem has been something I have brought up quite often. After throwing a few ideas on the table Eric picked up the ball and got some prototype bits fabbed up. Our approach was a little different in that rather than trying to improve an old design we went with adapting a more modern one. Been put on the back burner for a bit as I have had other work to address, but anyone that attended the last open house may have noticed a a slightly more complete version of this bolted on a motor: ![]() |
