My name is Dale, I’m a retired army warrant officer. I just inherited a 1994 914 2.0 which had belonged to my brother. It’s been sitting for years and I was told that it had brake problems, beyond that, I’ll have to give a thorough check to see what else needs addressed. Before anyone asks, it’s not for sale. It’s going to stay with me. Also I haven’t found the key yet can someone post a picture of what the keys look like? Several have fit, but don’t actually work. Thanks!

Welcome. You might already know, but before you get too deep you need to do the traditional 914 rust assessment. Start under the battery (the top of the frame member, aka the Hell Hole), then the longitudinal frame members (especially the right side), the floor under the seats, the trunk floor, and...the list goes on. If too much rust in key places, a 914 restoration can be questionable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Buy a borescope to inspect things first! An in-expensive hook to cell phone version will work fine. https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Lens-Adjustable...85508&psc=1 Remove seats, carpet, and rocker covers. Have someone inside the car with a spotlight and check for porosity underneath. Use borescope to check longs and center tunnel. Bad rust? Stop and re-access. Verify the chassis is worth saving before resurrecting the drivetrain. Not bad rust, use Borescope to check out cylinder bores BEFORE spinning engine over. Do research, ask questions here before spending money. This forum has the best "collective" of 914 Gurus anywhere! Tell us a little bit about yourself. What is your level of "gear head". Tell us about past projects and your automotive history. This will help us help you! "Full Blown Gear Head" who's restored multiple old cars gets a slightly different answer than someone who's only done oil changes and so forth. What are you into? Vintage rice: old Z cars, 510s, Toyota MR2s best describes me. I've had 40 years of active wrenching for my dinner. Whole bunch of low-end Italian in my background. Some German stuff as well. I run an Automotive HVAC specialist shop now. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/ninja.gif) Welcome to the World! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welcome.png) |
