I have a 3.2 1985 carerra motor in my 914...Great power, great fun... The problem. It smokes while idle...but mainly after it has warmed up. When under load, and when I lay into it, no smoking?
Could this be a vacume issue, oil distribution issue? easy fix you think? Or do I face facts.....need valve guides? valve seals? or engine overhaul (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) Could anyone suggest? Craig |

3.2’s have undersized rod bolts. If you use stock rods, you always upgrade the bolts to ARP.
We rarely do just a top end. We can’t “warranty” the rebuild without splitting the case. Who knows what else is wrong. Intermediate shaft bearing, main bearings, issues with the fuel pump, etc. Every time we open one up, there’s always something that makes us say that we are glad we split the case. It’s not cheap but it’s really expensive to have to go back in and do it twice. |

I certainly understand the need for the engine to be suitable for resale , thanks for the info I had no idea of this issue ,cheers. |
