I put this together for one of our 914World members. It slides into the ashtray rails, no fasteners or drilling holes required.

The two gauges shown have different depths, though either gauge will work on either side, I have no knowledge if VDO has built gauges with different depths or stud spacing other than these two. The voltmeter is the deeper gauge and has a body depth of 34mm. 2) Pictured on a '72 model. I assume ashtray's & rails are the same for all years but I don't know that with certainty.
