Beyond all of the various race mods, this very original car also provides a data point in the ongoing debate about the factory original underside finish. This car clearly shows a tan PVC undercoat with hints of body color overspray
I do not believe that Just because it is a GT there is any difference between this and a production car. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) EDIT had a good look at the images posted. it would be nice to see the real thing but going off the photos my guess is they shot the underside with schutz before final top color painting. the schutz more normally is white and as it ages it can go shades of light brown, varying coverage after that with body color. floor pan got a very light dusting of top coats. would be very similar to how the black bumpers on the 73/74s were done (along with the valence and rocker panels). shot with schutz first and then black paint. for sure that is how the bumpers/lower panels were done. agree with you that this would have applied to all 914s, sixes included. and this one is known to have been fully completed as a road car first of all then turned into a 6 by the factory. no reason for 6 to be any different to a 4, all bodies fully built at karmann the same way with the same paint etc. |
