The very early history of the car is interesting and rather cloudy: "Initial sale: dealer PO = Portugal no options The Car was initially ordered by Portuguese Porsche Importer and distributor; Messrs AS Motors Sociedade, but was never accepted by the distributor. T Final sale: Invoiced June 26th, 1971 Port of Entry: UA = Port of Los Angeles in San Pedro, CA Distributor: Porsche/Audi Pacific a Division of VW Pacific, Inc., Culver City, CA Dealer: Bozzani Porsche/Audi Inc., Monrovia, CA In August of 1971 it was delivered to Bozzani Porsche-Audi Inc. of Monrovia, California. Alan Johnson then advertised the car in Auto Week/Competition Press in October - November of 1971. Charles W Grimes II of Tulsa, OK purchased the car Feb 10, 1972 Howard B De Haven of Tulsa, OK purchased the car August 22, 1985 upon the death of Charles Grimes William D Noon of San Diego, CA purchased the car Nov 11,2003 "Symbolic Motor Car Company". http://www.symbolicmotors.com Frank Gallogly of Lime Rock, CT purchased the car 2007" -------------------------------------------------------------------------- So it appears that the car was never delivered to Portugal as intended, and at the time was just a stock 914/6. After the failed delivery it was converted to GT specifications at the Factory and used as a test mule. This was documented by Bozzani upon delivery. I remember when Charlie Grimes bought the car. He (and Howard, I think) tried to drive it from CA back to Tulsa, but it broke a rocker arm or something in El Paso and finished the trip on a trailer. Once it was repaired, Charlie and/or Howard used to drive it on Porsche club outings at times. Following it on cloverleaf onramps in my own -6 was quite the thrill! It was on the showroom floor here in Tulsa for many years, and The engine was on an engine stand in the shop for a lot of that time. Jack |
