I know this is an old thread but has any one found a good source for original 914/6 carpet? I just received a set from one of our trusted vendors who said it was an original match. They claimed it was made in house. It ended up coming from another well known upholster. It seems mostly correct but the vinyl heel pad on the drivers side looks unusual. I believe the original had 5 sections to it and this replacement has many lines embossed on it. It also has black binding and I think the original was a dark gray. Maybe my memory is starting to fail me. Any thoughts on what I am thinking?

Any thoughts on what I am thinking? see here. good discussion. http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?sho...75369&st=20 a 6 would either have had needle loom (called perlon in the USA) or square weave woven pile (more expensive option). the particular thread or yarn the germans used was called hair yarn. it had white fibres mixed in to the wool. literally hair (horse hair and later goats hair). its a particular type of carpet yarn that was native to german carpet manufacturers. still available today. there are certainly car restoration businesses in the UK and europe that specialise in carpet sets for mercedes and porsche etc using these original materials. as to the heel pad. you might have trouble getting someone to be able to exactly match that. one option is to see if you can get a second hand set of carpets and cut the heel pad out of that and have an upholsterer glue that in. thats what i did with my car which i converted to right hand drive and had to make a whole new carpet set for. the heel pad can be carefully removed from the original carpet. |
