My cigarette lighter is not working (not sure why yet, but don't think I have blown fuse,) therefor I don't have power for my phone or dash cam.

I have not crawled under the dash yet to look for any broken wire connections.

Are there any tricks to removing it?

So I was able to get under the dash and see the lighter socket and the retainer ring w/ prongs holding it in place. Here's what the ring looks like and w/ so many tabs/fingers holding onto the barrel, there's no way one can pull the body of the ligher socket out from the front w/o first prying at least 1/3 of the tabs away from the barrel. I tried for about half an hour in the most uncomfrotable position under the dash imagineable but just couldn't move even one tab. Is there a trick or tool other than a prick and long screwdriver that you gentlemen used to get this done?
