Rick just called. He's 30 miles west of Albuquerque and his water pump is failing. He has water and is going to try to get her here, but Nico and I are on stand by with the Burb and a strong rope.

I guess he'll be a house guest for a couple of days.

Any one have a 928 water pump you can overnight?

Unfortunately this is not an easy job for a 928 motor. the timing belt is the driver for the water pump and oil pump and of course both cams

27 bolts that just hold the pump to the block. Not to mention the brittle plastic covers and other crap that has to come off. Tensioning the belt is critical. too much tension and the pump seals will go out quickly. to loose and you can jump a tooth on a cam. Porsche has a 300 dollar tool to adjust belt tension . I only did this job once and did it by tightening the belt till it could be just twisted 90 degrees (between the tensioner and the passenger side cam gear. 500 miles it should be checked and re adjusted for a new belt.
1000 bucks at the dealer.
