Hey all!
I'm a very new owner of a 73' 1.7l, baby blue, all stock from what I can tell. Story is the motor lost oil back in 1990 and has been in my buddies mother-in-laws garage ever since. I couldn't pass it up so now I have a new project. After doing some searching I ran across this forum and it looked like a place I could call home. I'll tell you all up front that I plan on using you. Using your experience, knowledge, and tips to get this baby back into shape. First couple of questions should be simple. 1. This thing has A/C but I plan on ripping it all out. Is it worth anything? Should I just hang onto it for resale later? 2. I have always wanted to do a slant nose on one of these. No, I am far from a purist and don't intend to keep this thing stock and by the numbers. Are slant nose conversion fenders still available? If so from where? And is there a market for my rust free front stock fenders. I have seen new replacements priced around $1100! Any help is appreciated. This is only the begining of the multitude of stupid questions I'm going to ask but hey, I gotta start somewhere..... Attached image(s) |

BIG thanks goes to George for spending a couple hours going over my new toy. This is exactly what I wanted was someone to take a look at it and tell me just how bad or good it was. Lots of good knowledge and tips. #1.... fix rust, replace bad panels. #2.... drop the drive train and tear into it to see if it is salvageable, if its seized look for 2.0 to build.
So this is my plan for now, not to get ahead of myself and concentrate on these things. I'll keep everyone updated on any progress or concerns. After actually driving my first 914 (thanks again George) I can't wait to get this thing moving on its own! Big euro meet this weekend in Jenks at 1st and Main from 6-10pm. All Teener owners are welcome to cruise in or just stop and visit. Its a charity event for Joe Pleasant, a triple liver transplant survivor..... no he doesn't have 3 livers now, just 3 different livers in the past year! Its a good cause and a chance to see some really nice european machines, maybe even a few rare items you wouldn't normally get to see on the street! Stick around in Jenks and check out the new River Walk area after the meet, always live music and a good time. Our own little piece of Austin in Tulsa....... Thanks again to everyone...... |
