Earlier today the brakes were fine, engaging about halfway down the pedal, then I practically had to push the pedal to the wall to get brakeage. Is there a short answer for this? I can get the car to slow, but only after I'm pushing all the way down. It's a 1970 914. Thx! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

leak ...
check fluid level first, but i'm pretty certain it's leaking somewhere. check on the floor around the pedal cluster, a failing master cylinder can actually leak inside the car. check on all 4 brake calipers. check the master cylinder from under the car. you'll have to remove the protective shield that covers the front suspension.
