Hey Guys.
Check out the following links. The first one is a forum about cheep paint jobs and a guy that painted his car with Tremclad (Rust-oleum in US) and high density foam rollers. cost him $50. (There are over 2- pages on this topic) http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/showfl...=0&fpart=1&vc=1 The following link are some better photos of his charger and a Beetle he painted the same way in 2000. http://photobucket.com/albums/d13/69martin.../paint/?start=0 I cannot believe how good the paint looks..... |

This is interesting info, and pretty near to my CSOB heart. But I think I'd have to agree that its probably only a good idea for "special" cars : end of life, GRM challenge, etc. If its a car that (we hope) is going to be around for years to come, Rustoleum sounds like a risky idea. Anybody who does auto painting seriously won't even paint on top of a different brand of auto paint (and warranty it) due to compatibility issues, and the previous post about crackling isn't much of a suprise. But still, there's times when special methods are called for. I saw a really sweet paint job a few months back in the Safeway parking lot. It was a very carefully applied rattle-can job on a pristine (but unprepped) Chevy Citation. Color selection was key : a retina-scorching Lemon Yellow. Kudos. |
