To pound out and pound in the bearing races, I use a brass drift. It's basically a brass punch which will deform upon impact instead of damaging the race.
Brass Drift Set Tap-tap on one side, tap-tap on the other side. Do this continuously until the old race falls out. Do the same thing to install the new race. The drift will show signs of deformity but the races will be spared any harm. Not a hard job. Just takes some patience. Some people cool the new race so it shrinks a bit and fits in better. I did this on the first bearing race, then came to the conclusion that by the time the race was half way in, it had returned to room temp and lost its "shrinkage". I changed the seal since it was only a couple of bucks at my FLAPS. Spoke |
